A 46-year-old inmate at the Travis County Correctional Complex died Friday after being transported to a local hospital for treatment, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.
Miguel Angel Gonzalez was brought to an emergency room after jail medical staff observed symptoms that required greater medical care than they could provide. He was pronounced dead at 8:41 p.m.
The office did not clarify his symptoms or release his cause of death. An autopsy was conducted Monday but results are pending.
Gonzalez had been booked on a driving while intoxicated charge on March 19.
The sheriff's office is conducting a customary internal review and criminal investigation alongside the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office, as they do with all deaths in custody.
