Jonathan Cory Cruz, who was hired as head coach and campus athletic coordinator at McNeil High School in late March, was booked into the Williamson County Jail on Monday, according to jail records.
The head football coach at a Round Rock high school has been put on administrative leave after he was arrested on a warrant for injury to a child, elderly or disabled individual with an intent to cause bodily injury, district officials confirmed Tuesday.
U.S. Marshals arrested Cruz on a warrant issued by the Arlington Police Department, tied to an incident that occurred in January 2024. The American-Statesman contacted Arlington police for details on the incident.
Anne Drabicky, chief of public affairs and communications for Round Rock ISD, told the Statesman that district officials "became aware" of the warrant on Monday when outside authorities contacted them. She added that Cruz is currently on administrative leave.
"[Cruz] began working for the district on March 23, 2026. His arrest Monday stems from an incident that occurred in 2024, prior to his employment with the district," Drabicky wrote in an emailed statement.
Drabicky said the district declined to share any additional details, writing that the incident "is being handled by an external law enforcement agency."
Cruz remains in custody, according to jail records.
