Austin police arrested Keegan Shirley, 30, after a fatal Sunday crash on S. Lamar Boulevard.

An Austin man was arrested and charged Sunday after police said he crashed his pickup truck into an SUV, killing a 2-year-old and seriously injuring another person in the vehicle.

Keegan Shirley, 30, was driving the truck when he struck the other vehicle just before 10 p.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of S. Lamar Boulevard, police said. Two passengers in the SUV were transported to a local hospital, including 2-year-old Abbi Sofia Romero Aular. She was later pronounced dead. Police have not shared the status of the other injured person.

Police said other people involved sustained minor injuries but did not share additional details.

Shirley was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury, both felony charges. Travis County Jail records show Shirley's bond is set at a combined $150,000 for the two charges, and he remained in custody as of Tuesday morning.

If convicted, Shirley could face two to 20 years in prison for the intoxication manslaughter charge and between two and 10 years for the assault charge, in addition to possible fines.

This is being investigated as Austin’s 28th fatal crash of 2026.
