Two Austin hotels have landed on a prestigious global ranking of the world’s best places to stay. That’s right — not the best in the state or the country, but the entire world.
The Commodore Perry Estate and Austin Proper Hotel were both named to Travel + Leisure magazine’s 2026 list of the 500 best hotels in the world.
The annual rankings are based on the publication’s World’s Best Awards survey, which asks readers to evaluate hotels on criteria including rooms, amenities, location, service and overall experience. Nearly 190 hotels across the United States made this year’s list, but only 10 of those properties were in Texas.
The newly restored historic 10-acre Commodore Perry Estate is now a resort hotel.
The Commodore Perry Estate is located in Central Austin’s Hyde Park neighborhood and opened in 2020 as part of the Auberge Resorts Collection. The luxury boutique hotel occupies a 10,800-square-foot historic mansion surrounded by 10 acres of European-style gardens and upscale dining options, including the Michelin-recommended restaurant, Lutie’s. Visitors can tour the estate, attend a wine or tequila tasting, or take a cooking class during their stay.
Meanwhile, the Austin Proper Hotel downtown has built a national profile thanks to its design-forward rooms. Its rooftop pool and wellness experiences also help it stand out among competitors. The hotel is also known for its dining offerings, including the Mediterranean restaurant Peacock and rooftop bistro La Piscina. The property also recently opened Kappo Kappo, a French-Japanese fusion restaurant.
Other Texas hotels included on Travel + Leisure’s 2026 list were properties in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Grapevine, Frisco and San Antonio.
The full list can be found in Travel + Leisure's May 2026 issue.
