Dashcam video released by Texas DPS shows a pursuit on U.S. 183 in North Austin ending with a pickup rolling over near the MoPac Boulevard exit. A driver wanted on multiple warrants was arrested Sunday after Texas Department of Public Safety troopers used an immobilization tactic during a pursuit on northbound U.S. 183 near the MoPac Boulevard exit. According to DPS, the incident occurred at about 3:53 a.m. after troopers spotted a pickup linked to an earlier dangerous pursuit on May 13. Officials shared dashcam footage of the previous chase, which shows the driver traveling the wrong way toward oncoming traffic, creating what the agency called a "serious threat" to other motorists. When troopers spotted the pickup Sunday, they attempted to stop the vehicle for multiple traffic violations, but the driver accelerated and began weaving through traffic in an apparent attempt to flee, DPS said. Because the truck was deemed a danger to the public, troopers opted to use a precision immobilization technique — or PIT maneuver — to stop the vehicle less than a mile into the pursuit. The maneuver caused the pickup to strike a median wall and roll over, landing upside down on the roadway. Authorities did not share how many occupants were inside the vehicle during the crash, but confirmed all occupants were removed from the vehicle. Two passengers suffered minor injuries and were treated by emergency personnel at the scene. During a search of the pickup, troopers reported finding open containers of alcohol and marijuana shake. The driver, whose name was not released publicly, was charged with evading arrest after the incident. He was also found to have multiple active warrants in Travis County for assault on a pregnant person, violation of a bond two or more times over 12 months, and evading arrest, in addition to other charges that the agency didn't specify. After he was medically cleared, he was booked into the Travis County Jail. DPS did not immediately respond to a request for additional details about the earlier pursuit or the suspect's identity.
