A man died after a tree fell on the patio of Green Mesquite BBQ on Barton Springs Road on Tuesday night. The restaurant confirmed the incident on Thursday and identified the man as Kirk Foyle, a friend, longtime customer, and 'beloved member of the Zilker neighborhood.'
According to Green Mesquite, Foyle was struck by a tree that had apparently been hit by lightning. Austin-Travis County EMS reported that medics were called to the location at 9:20 p.m. for a person trapped under a fallen tree. The patient was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with critical injuries and later died.
The restaurant offered its condolences on Facebook, stating, 'The entire staff here at the Green Mesquite offers our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and neighbors as we all work through this difficult time.'
Green Mesquite, a Texas-style barbecue restaurant located at 1400 Barton Springs Road near Zilker Park, plans to honor Foyle's memory and will share updates later.
