The Old Quarry Branch Library in Far West Austin will reopen June 22 after two years of renovations. The updates include a modern interior layout, outdoor reading patio, learning zones for children and teenagers, an upgraded HVAC system, and new shelving, flooring, and furnishings. The project was funded through the city's 2018 bond package, which allocated $128 million for library improvements. Austin Public Library Director Hannah Terrell said the renovations have transformed the building into a brighter, more flexible, and welcoming space while preserving its role as a neighborhood gathering place.
As Old Quarry reopens, the Menchaca Road Branch Library will close after June 14 for similar renovations, estimated to take about a year. The renovations will include a modernized interior, dedicated areas for children and teens, technology and infrastructure upgrades, and updated furnishings. During the closure, patrons can visit nearby locations such as the Twin Oaks Branch, Pleasant Hill Branch, and Hampton Branch at Oak Hill.
In addition to Old Quarry and Menchaca, the 2018 bond funded renovations at the Willie Mae Kirk Branch Library and parking lot improvements at the Hampton Branch at Oak Hill.
