Waymo has expanded its service stoppage across Texas, Georgia, and Tennessee amid severe storm threats, the company said Friday. The ride-hailing provider's widening shutdown comes a month after floodwaters swept away one of its self-driving vehicles in San Antonio. Waymo has been halted in San Antonio since the April 20 incident that occurred on an Interstate 35 frontage road near Salado Creek on the city's east side. The company said it's pausing service in its other Texas markets — including Austin, Dallas, and Houston — as well as Atlanta and Nashville, because of impending severe weather. A Waymo spokesman said the company makes "proactive decisions including temporarily pausing aspects of our service." It added that it paused service to make improvements to its systems, but didn't say when it would begin serving riders again. "We know riders count on us to get around, and we appreciate their patience as we work to get them where they're going safely and reliably," the spokesman said.
