Former students, teachers, and families gathered at Faubion Elementary for a Legacy Walk before the school closes on Friday. The Leander Independent School District cited low enrollment and budgetary concerns, saving $1.26 million by closing the campus. Attendees crowded the hallways, library, and cafeteria, reminiscing about their time at the school. Many expressed sadness and nostalgia for the close-knit community at Faubion. The school's namesake, Ada Mae Faubion, was a teacher for 39 years and taught her own son as well as her two grandsons. After the school's closure, construction is expected to begin in spring 2027 to repurpose the building as a new location for New Hope High School, the district's alternative high school. The district continues to honor the memory of Ada Mae Faubion by naming its first early childhood education center after her.
