Memorial Day Ceremony at Texas State Cemetery Honors Ancestors

The Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution held a Memorial Day ceremony at the Texas State Cemetery, honoring ancestors.

A Memorial Day ceremony at the Texas State Cemetery honored ancestors, organized by the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution. Shiidon Hawley gave the orders to fire the salute, and Richard Fawkes fired it. Wayne Courreges Jr. exited the cemetery following the ceremony. Shiidon Hawley led the color guard, and Ron Moulton played Taps on the bugle. Descendants of Lieutenant Robert Rankin stood for his eulogy, and Mark Ellison rang the memorial bell as names of deceased members were read. Colonel Ian Vargas gave the keynote address, and Gary Knippa and the Friends led the singing of the National Anthem. Attendees included Shannon Green, Kendall Owen, and members of the Patrick Henry Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. Ron Moulton, Henry Shoenfelt, and Mark Ellison were in attendance. The ceremony took place on Monday, May 25, 2026.
