The 24th annual Memorial Day Ceremony took place at Bastrop's Fairview Cemetery on Monday. Themed "Honoring Those Who Served," the event featured a military-services musical tribute, speeches, singing of anthems, the reading of World War I poem "In Flanders Field," a wreath laying, the Bastrop High School Navy Junior ROTC flag bearers, and the playing of "Taps" and "Amazing Grace." Army veteran Carl "Pee Wee" Rees assisted Catherine Lindsey in laying a wreath to honor her husband, Army veteran Ronald Lewis Lindsey. The event concluded with bagpiper Garret Stewart playing "Amazing Grace." Attendees also participated in prayers during the ceremony.
