Austin-area school districts are offering free breakfast and lunch for children this summer. The meals are part of federal summer nutrition programs intended to keep food available after the school year ends. Meals are generally available at no cost to children 18 and younger, though some districts also include enrolled students with disabilities up to 21.

The Texas Department of Agriculture maintains an online summer meal finder that families can use to search for approved summer meal sites across the state, including schools and community locations.

Austin ISD will serve free breakfast and lunch at more than 30 schools this summer. Children do not have to attend AISD, show an ID or register in advance to eat, according to the district. Meals must be eaten on campus, and all AISD summer meal sites will be closed June 29 through July 3.

IDEA Public Schools will also offer free breakfast and lunch from June 1 through July 31 at IDEA school cafeterias, including for children who do not attend an IDEA campus. Meals must be eaten in the cafeteria, and food service will not be available on federal holidays, June 19 or from June 29 through July 4.

Other Austin-area districts offering free meals include Round Rock ISD, Leander ISD, Georgetown ISD, Hays CISD, and Bastrop ISD. Families should confirm the location, dates and serving times before heading to a school.
