Austin Independent School District (AISD) Police Chief Wayne Sneed was seriously injured while escorting Superintendent Matis Segura from a high school graduation. As Segura was leaving Austin High School's graduation at the Toney Burger Athletic Center, Sneed was reportedly struck by a fellow AISD officer in a congested parking lot. The incident, which occurred around 8:30 p.m., resulted in Sneed being taken to the hospital with a leg injury.
Sneed's condition is stable, and he was in good spirits the following morning. AISD declined to comment further on the incident's specifics. Sneed, who has been with the Austin ISD Police Department for over ten years and was named its first Black chief in 2022, is admired for his leadership in the department's mental health and community engagement activities.
