Austin police said no charges will be filed after a 4-year-old consumed a THC-infused lollipop at school last month. The boy showed signs of impairment on May 22 after eating a lollipop that had been passed out in a birthday celebration goodie bag at The Nest at Anderson Mill, a private Montessori school in Northwest Austin. According to the boy’s mother, Savannah Mallach, her son was hospitalized overnight and experienced an elevated heart rate and hallucinations. Mallach told CBS Austin, "He wasn’t my happy child. It was awful." Police concluded there was no evidence that the child’s parent knowingly or intentionally provided the THC-infused candy to the child. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is continuing to investigate the incident. Shavonda Lawson, co-founder and CEO of The Nest, said in a statement that the school will strengthen its procedures related to outside food items, classroom celebrations and campus oversight.
