The folks over at Texas Monthly last month published a list of the 25 best new taquerias in the state, and two popular Austin spots made the list.

Paprika, which was declared the best new taqueria in Austin in April, made the roster compiled by writer José Ralat thanks in part to its suadero and al pastor tacos. Margarito (Mago) and Hayden Pérez opened the brick-and-mortar evolution of their trailer on North Lamar Boulevard last fall. Paprika brims with flavor and positive energy. In addition to the suadero and al pastor, the chicken tinga tacos are highly recommended.

“The flavors are so simple, but they just hug you,” the self-taught Perez said of the recipe he created to emulate his mother, whom he calls “the most talented cook I know, without wanting to be a cook.”

Austin's second entrant on the list is Comadre Panadería, which was opened by Chef Mariela Camacho in 2023. The magazine praised the chef's bean and cheese tacos, "a true power combo in which velvety pintos are caught in a net of salty cheddar," and the "sublime" nopales, egg and cheese taco.
