National Doughnut Day is upon us, and in Austin, there’s no shortage of sugary options to celebrate the holiday.
Observed annually on the first Friday of June, National Doughnut Day has become one of the sweetest food holidays of the year, with doughnut chains and local bakeries alike offering free treats, discounts and limited-time specials.
The holiday traces its roots back to 1938 when the Salvation Army created National Doughnut Day to honor the “Donut Lassies,” volunteers who served the treats to American soldiers during World War I. Nearly a century later, the tradition has evolved into a nationwide celebration.

Little Lucy’s
To commemorate the holiday, Little Lucy’s Mini Donuts said in an Instagram post that it’s “whipping up something special” on June 5.
The Rainey Street bakery will offer limited-time "Donut Boats" on Friday. The boats are loaded with doughnuts and topped with whipped cream and sprinkles.

Round Rock Donuts

The Miami-born bakery is also rolling out an exclusive cookies and cream cake doughnut, topped with chocolate cookie crumbles. The treat is available for one day only. Pre-orders for the donut opened at midnight, excluding the Georgetown location.

For this year’s National Doughnut Day, Dunkin' is bringing back its free doughnut deal.
Get a free doughnut with the purchase of any drink at Dunkin' locations nationwide on June 5.
The chain is also collaborating with Stoney Clover Lane to launch a limited-edition collection of doughnut-themed accessories. Featuring doughnut-themed pouches and a cross-body bag, the collection is set to launch online at 10 a.m. ET. It sold out almost instantly last year.
