The Austin Fire Department and accompanying agencies visited at least 12 venues in the Red River Cultural District on Friday night, with some businesses receiving citations. The visits were part of ongoing safety and licensing efforts downtown, but Red River leaders say the approach left venues feeling targeted as businesses navigate one of their slower stretches of the year. Assistant City Manager for Public Safety Ramón Batista confirmed that the visits were not related to an audit but were part of ongoing efforts to ensure the area remains vibrant, welcoming, and safe for visitors. The goal was to inform vendors about business licensing requirements and city regulations, as well as give warnings and guidance when needed and promote voluntary compliance before enforcement actions are taken.
