An apartment fire Wednesday morning at a complex in Northeast Austin sent one person to the hospital and left half of the complex's units uninhabitable, the Austin Fire Department said. The agency responded to the fire at 7610 Cameron Road and crews were still on scene at 4:53 a.m., according to an update on social media. Austin Fire extinguished the flames and successfully contained the fire to the unit where it started. One person was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The fire was accidental, Austin Fire said. The apartment complex where the fire occurred had 24 units, and Austin Fire said only 12 of the units were able to be safely reoccupied. The other 12 sustained significant smoke and water damage and their residents were displaced. The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents.
