Austin's East 51st Street Project Moves Closer to Construction

Austin plans major upgrades to East 51st Street, with construction expected to begin in 2027 after years of delays.

East 51st Street near Lancaster Drive in Austin is slated for mobility and safety upgrades under the city's long-delayed East 51st Street Mobility Project. The project would reshape the corridor between Interstate 35 and Berkman Drive, adding landscaped medians, crosswalks, protected bike lanes and tree-lined sidewalks. Crews also plan to upgrade water lines and drainage infrastructure. East 51st Street Mobility Project
