Old Quarry Branch Library Reopening Delayed, Menchaca Closure Postpone

Austin Public Library pushes back Old Quarry's reopening and extends Menchaca operations while final infrastructure work is completed.

Austin Public Library has delayed the reopening of the Old Quarry Branch Library, originally scheduled for June 22, due to additional electrical infrastructure requirements before finalizing renovations. The library plans to announce a summer reopening date with upgrades including a modernized interior, new outdoor patio, children and teen learning zones, new shelving, flooring, HVAC system, tech improvements, and asbestos abatement. Additionally, the closure of Menchaca Road Branch Library, previously set for June 14, has been postponed. It will also undergo renovations, including a modernized interior, spaces for children and teens, literacy and learning zones, tech upgrades, furnishings, and improvements to accessibility and sustainability. The Austin Public Library is offering summer programs at branches across the city and a Summer Reading and Badge Challenge through Aug. 10.
