A Liberty Hill man received a 40-year prison sentence for the fentanyl-related death of Cedar Park teenager Matthew Wright. A Williamson County jury found Caleb Comer, 27, guilty of murder. Prosecutors presented evidence that Wright bought counterfeit pills containing fentanyl from Comer and had previously asked him to stop selling to him after the drugs made him physically ill. According to the district attorney's office, Comer continued contacting Wright to offer more pills and told him not to stop taking the drugs. On May 2, 2024, Cedar Park police went to a home for a welfare check and found Wright dead in his bedroom with signs of an overdose. Officers recovered Wright’s cell phone and received information from his family regarding a Cash App transaction the week before his death. Investigators successfully linked the Cash App account to Comer and uncovered a history of transactions between Wright and Comer that appeared to be for the purchase of narcotics. Wright bought counterfeit “Percs” — illicit tablets designed to mimic prescription Percocet but containing lethal doses of fentanyl — from Comer. The jury heard during sentencing that Comer had previously been convicted twice for drug-related offenses in Brazoria County. Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick said, “Fentanyl is a deadly poison, and those who peddle counterfeit pills that contain lethal doses of it will be held fully accountable for the lives they take."
