A small passenger plane crashed near Loop 20 in Laredo on Tuesday night, closing all north and southbound highway traffic near Saunders Street and Clark Boulevard, according to the Laredo Police Department.

The crash was reported around 10 p.m. near the Texas Department of Public Safety office, police said.

It was not immediately clear how many people were on board or their condition. The plane, identified as a Cessna, has enough seats to fit 10 occupants.

Nobody on the highway was injured during the crash, police said.

The flight departed from Los Cabos International Airport around 6:19 p.m. MT and was on its way to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport when it crashed, according to data from FlightAware.com.

Videos posted online show the aircraft on its side, smashed into a highway barrier. Rescuers from the Laredo Fire Department and other agencies were seen smashing the cockpit windows to free people inside.
