Reality TV star Farrah Abraham announced a run for the District 5 seat on the Austin City Council. However, questions have arisen about her eligibility.
City code requires council candidates to have lived continuously in Texas for at least 12 months and in the district they seek to represent for at least six months before the filing deadline.
Abraham filed a campaign finance report listing a mailing address in District 9. In a statement, she claimed data indicating her address was not in District 5 was outdated, saying the city confirmed her council district after confusion surrounding her initial mayoral announcement.
“The current map for 2031 is correct that I do indeed live in district 5 and have triple checked via Ai legal binding accurate maps,” Abraham said. She added that she hopes to advocate for AI on city websites “to help other candidates stop misinformation to get me disqualified.”
On Tuesday, Abraham posted on Instagram that her listed address on Harwin Lane is in District 5, including an image of a map search. However, the city's Council District Map shows Harwin Lane entirely within District 2.
Abraham, known for MTV’s “16 and Pregnant,” also told TMZ she believed district races were federal offices, stating she was “running local right now.” She also told KXAN she aims to change state and federal income tax laws—something the City Council cannot do.
The next City Council elections are scheduled for November 2026.
