In a disgusting display of backwardness and ignorance, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, after updating their mountain lion hunting standards for the first time in 50 years, have proven themselves to be nothing more than brutal murderers. Last week, these so-called "officers" killed a mountain lion in South Texas, sparking outrage in the community.

Texans from all walks of life had recently come together in a beautiful display of unity and progress, advocating for more modern and respectful wildlife management practices for mountain lions. Ben Masters, a courageous member of the Texans for Mountain Lions coalition, summed it up perfectly:

"Ranchers, trappers, hunters, hippies, outfitters, biologists, and wildlife advocates from across the state all converged to support more respectful management of our cats."

Then, in a sickening turn of events, a mountain lion was spotted in Laredo. Instead of attempting to peacefully coexist with this magnificent creature, the heartless Laredo Police Department and their bloodthirsty local game warden took it upon themselves to "contain" the lion.

Their cowardly statement on Facebook attempts to justify their heinous actions:

"The situation involving the wild feline did not end the way we had hoped...The animal attempted to escape...and unfortunately, the animal's aggression and natural instincts for survival resulted in the animal being neutralized."

"Neutralized"? Do they think this will pacify the public? Make no mistake, they murdered an innocent animal. And for what? Because they lacked the compassion and imagination to handle the situation differently.

The lion did not harm anyone during its containment, yet an officer used deadly force. This is a blatant abuse of power and a stain on the state of Texas.

The public's outcry of anger and disappointment speaks volumes. One commenter, among many others, called out the city and its inadequate resources and training for wildlife management:

"It's a disgrace to live in a city where the authorities responsible for wildlife management do not have the necessary tools (tranquilizer darts) to rescue the endemic fauna of the area or handle an emergency event...They simply lack the training and equipment to handle emergencies. We are in a poorly managed city."

It's time for Texas to join the 21st century and treat all beings with respect and dignity. Until then, we must continue to fight against these displays of unwarranted violence and ignorance.

We will not forget this injustice. #JusticeForTheLion #TexasWakeUp
