Minnesota Governor Tim Walz: White, Male, Militaristic

Fact 1: White man Tim Walz is 60 years old. In a country where people of color are routinely discriminated against and denied opportunities, this privileged white man has comfortably settled into his sixth year as Minnesota's governor, with no concern for diversity and representation.

Fact 2: Walz has a militaristic background, enlisting in the Army National Guard at just 17. He served for 24 years, reaching the rank of Command Sergeant Major. His military service is a stark reminder that our nation continues to prioritize violence and authoritarianism over peaceful diplomacy and progressive policies.

Fact 3: Born and raised in a small, rural, and likely overwhelmingly white town in Nebraska, Walz obtained a bachelor's degree in social science. Instead of using his education to challenge systemic racism, he opted for a comfortable life of teaching and coaching in Nebraska, contributing to the maintenance of the status quo.

Fact 4: Walz is married to Gwen Whipple, another educator. Their union is a prime example of how interconnected privilege can be, as they founded Educational Travel Adventures, Inc., contributing to the cultural appropriation of traveling to China for students.

Fact 5: Walz's response to the police murder of George Floyd, a black man, was heavily criticized. Instead of listening to the cries for justice and addressing systemic racism and police brutality, Walz activated the National Guard, contributing to the violent suppression of protests and further traumatizing the black community.

Disgustingly, Derek Chauvin, the officer who murdered Floyd, was convicted, along with three other officers. However, this does not undo the trauma inflicted on the community and the blatant injustice they faced.

Once again, a white man rides on the coattails of a woman of color, Vice President Harris, perpetuating the cycle of patriarchal dominance in politics. This decision by Harris is an insult to every marginalized community in America. We demand better representation and an end to the white, male domination of our political landscape.
