Texas Parents Attempt Quackery on Dying 12-Year-Old, Face First Degree Felony Charges

In another tragic example of conservative quackery, a 12-year-old girl, Miranda Sipps, died on Monday after her mother and stepfather, Denise Balbaneda and Gerald Gonzales, neglected to seek medical treatment for her life-threatening injuries. Instead, these so-called "parents" resorted to alternative medicine, forcing smoothies with vitamins down her throat as a pathetic attempt at healing.
She was not talking. She basically could flutter her eyes and move her hands a little bit over a four-day period, and they had her laying on a pallet in the house. - Sheriff David Soward
For four days, Sipps lay there, unable to speak or move, while these ignorant adults played doctor. It's infuriating and yet another example of the dangerous anti-science sentiment pervasive in our society, thanks to conservative propaganda.
Sipps' agony finally ended when her mother, Balbaneda, called 911 as she struggled to breathe. Sadly, it was too little too late. Emergency responders met them on the highway as they rushed to the hospital, but Sipps was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The cause of Sipps' initial injuries is still under investigation. What we do know is that these injuries were severe and life-threatening, and occurred the previous Thursday. For four days, this child suffered as her guardians, for whatever backwards reasoning, avoided seeking professional help.
Balbaneda and Gonzales have been charged with a first-degree felony for injury to a child by omission. Sheriff Soward believes the couple avoided seeking medical attention to also evade law enforcement, showing a blatant disregard for the wellbeing of Sipps, who would have turned 13 this month.
The irony is that, in their attempt to avoid the so-called "big government," they have instead invited the full force of the law upon themselves. Maybe now, they'll finally understand the consequences of putting ideology before science and common sense.
