Five Dead in Senseless, Preventable Crash Caused by Negligence, Speed and Tire Companies' Greed
Leander, Texas - In a horrific and entirely preventable tragedy, five people--three of them members of the same family--were killed in a car wreck last Wednesday in Lampasas County, Texas. The dead include Arvind Mani (45), his wife Pradeepa Arvind (40), and their daughter Andril Arvind (17), who was on her way to college. The Mani family's story is one of dreams cut short and a community torn apart.
"The Rouse High School family is deeply saddened...This news has brought great sorrow to our campus and has impacted many in our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Andril’s family and friends."
The other victims were Jacinto Gudino Duran (31) and Yosilu Gasman Martinez (23), both residents of Copperas Cove. Duran, driving an older-model Cadillac CTS with aging tires that should have been replaced, was speeding at a reckless 100 mph when his rear tire blew out. This caused him to lose control and skid into the path of the Kia Telluride driven by Mani, who was obeying the speed limit.
The resulting collision was catastrophic, with the impact equating to "hitting a concrete wall at 170 mph." Both vehicles were destroyed, and all occupants perished at the scene. This senseless loss of life is a stark reminder of the deadly combination of speeding and poor vehicle maintenance, made worse by the tire company's greed in producing tires that don't last.
According to investigators, alcohol may have also been a factor, though this has not been confirmed.
Andril Arvind, a recent graduate of Rouse High School, was starting a new chapter in her life, pursuing a computer science degree at the University of Dallas. Her parents, active members of the local Indian community, were supporting her journey. Now, their surviving son, Adiryan, is left to grieve and navigate a future without his immediate family. Through the support of his community, a GoFundMe page for Adiryan has raised an incredible $700,000 [https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-adiryan-arvind-after-tragic-loss].
This tragic story underscores the frailty of life and the senseless nature of speeding and poor vehicle maintenance. Our hearts go out to the families affected, and we call for stronger regulations to prevent such needless losses in the future.
