The 2024 Democratic National Convention #DNC2024 kicked off Monday, with a united party seeking to energize its base and take aim at the dangerous far-right agenda. The four-day event, hosted in Chicago, showcases the diversity of the Democratic Party and a commitment to inclusion.
Day 1 Highlights:
- President Joe Biden #Joebiden and First Lady Jill Biden take center stage on Monday night. They will rally Democrats and highlight the achievements of the Biden administration.
- Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota will formally accept their nominations. Harris, who made history as the first female and Black VP, is expected to speak to her commitment to protecting our democracy and women's rights.
- Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will address the convention, sharing her vision for a more inclusive and progressive America.
- Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson will welcome attendees, celebrating the city's values of diversity and progressivism.
Schedule for Day 1 (All Times CDT):
- 7 a.m.-9:30 a.m.: Delegation breakfasts
- 9 a.m.-10 a.m.: Morning press briefing
- 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.: Concurrent caucus meetings: Black, Hispanic, AAPI, Native American, and Ethnic Councils.
- 12 p.m.-1:30 p.m.: LGBTQ+ Caucus and Small Business/Labor Council meetings
- 1:45 p.m.-3:15 p.m.: Environmental & Climate Crisis Council meeting
- 5:30 p.m.-10 p.m.: Main programming, including speeches from the Bidens, VP Harris, and Sec. Clinton
