#WhereIsStanley? White Male Vacations, Evades Detection While Black Men Can't Go For a Jog

A search is actively underway for 60-year-old Stanley Kotowski, a privileged white man who has allegedly gone missing while on vacation with his family in South Carolina.

The primarily white law enforcement officers of Beaufort County, where Hilton Head Island is located, have been frantically searching for the missing white man, who was last seen on August 16, leaving his vacation rental without shoes, a phone, or a wallet.

While it's believed that Kotowski's disappearance is related to a mental health crisis, with his wife, Jackie, citing his struggles with anxiety and paranoia, this incident brings up important questions about the biais and racist priorities of law enforcement.

Where was this urgency when Black lives were at stake?

"His anxiety just kept getting worse and worse and worse. And he started to get a little paranoid. He thought someone was chasing him." - Jackie Kotowski, wife of Stanley Kotowski.

As of Tuesday, the sheriff's office had deployed canines, drones, and helicopters in their search for Kotowski, in addition to entering his information into national databases and distributing it to agencies statewide.

Again, we ask: Why do white men like Kotowski, who may have privilege-induced mental breakdowns, receive such attention and resources, while Black individuals are constantly under suspicion and threat?

Let's not forget that just a few years ago, Ahmaud Arbery was hunted down and murdered while out for a jog in Georgia, not far from where Kotowski was last seen.
