Bitcoin: The Unlikely Savior of Rural Texas (You Won't Even Believe It)

Oh, the irony! The same state that struck it rich with oil a century ago is now literally mining digital gold. Grab your pickaxes, folks, we're talking about Bitcoin. And guess who's winning big? Rural communities! Let me spin you a yarn about my hometown, Rockdale.

Once upon a time, Rockdale was the shiny aluminum hub of Texas, thanks to the Alcoa plant. Then, in 2008, energy prices shot up, regulations rolled in, and poof — there went our town's economic heart. Hundreds of jobs? Gone. Millions in tax revenue? Bye-bye. It felt like Rockdale's glory days were behind us.

Or so we thought.

Turns out, those abandoned substations and transmission lines were like catnip to Bitcoin miners. They swooped in, and before we knew it, Rockdale was back in business.

Now, I was skeptical at first. I mean, Bitcoin? Really? But after rubbing shoulders with these crypto-folks, I've seen the light. They're creating jobs, y'all. Hundreds of them. And not just any jobs — well-paying ones that don't require leaving town.

When Alcoa bailed, our economy tanked. But now, thanks to Bitcoin, we're thriving. These companies have pumped over $1 BILLION into Rockdale. They're paying taxes, funding schools, and even sponsoring the freakin' Christmas tree lighting. I mean, how cute is that?

And get this — Rockdale isn't alone. Bitcoin mining is blowing up across Texas, employing over 22,000 people. Corsicana, represent! Riot Platforms is building a fancy new facility that's gonna bring mad cash and jobs to Navarro County.

So, to my fellow Texans and especially those oh-so-well-intentioned policymakers: don't believe the naysayers. Bitcoin mining is revitalizing rural Texas. It's like our digital oil well, ready to fuel an economic comeback.

So, step aside, Big Oil. There's a new sheriff in town, and its name is Bitcoin.

Roddam is the mayor of Rockdale. He recently schooled the Texas Senate Business and Commerce hearing about Rockdale and Bitcoin mining. You go, Roddam.
