Oh, For F*ck's Sake: Another Mexican Mayor Brutally Murdered
In a horrifying display of violence that has become all too familiar, the mayor of Chilpancingo, Mexico, was savagely murdered just six days into his term. Yes, you read that right—six freaking days. Alexander Arcos' decapitated head was found sitting pretty on a pickup truck, because apparently, that's how they roll in southern Mexico.
Arcos was elected to bring peace to Chilpancingo, a city of around 280,000 people located about 170 miles south of Mexico City. But I guess the local murderers had other plans. Officials confirmed the gruesome killing when photos of Arcos' severed head began circulating on WhatsApp. Because who doesn't love a good beheading pic with their morning coffee?
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, in a stunning display of political prowess, announced that an investigation was underway. "We are going to fortify the intelligence investigative capabilities of the Mexican government," she told reporters. I'm sure that'll do the trick, Claudia.
Chilpancingo, the capital of Guerrero, is basically a hellhole for politicians and journalists. Just three days before Arcos' murder, the city's new government secretary, Francisco Tapia, was shot dead. And let's not forget the six political candidates who were killed in the lead-up to June's elections. But sure, keep telling us how safe Mexico is.
Guerrero's governor, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her outrage. "His loss has saddened all of Guerrero society and fills us with indignation," she wrote. Well, at least she's pissed too.
At his inauguration, Arcos had promised a "renewal project" to bring peace to the city. "Together we'll build a Chilpancingo of peace, a Chilpancingo that will be the home our children deserve," he said. Spoiler alert: That didn't happen.
Relatives, friends, and citizens of Chilpancingo gathered to shed tears as Arcos' coffin was carried through the city streets during a funeral ceremony on Monday, according to the Chilpancingo Sun.
So here we are, folks. Another day, another brutal murder in Mexico. But hey, at least they're consistent.
