Group 1 Automotive Buys Land in Buda, Completes I-35’s Transformation into Car Dealership Valhalla

Another corporate auto giant plants its flag in the Hill Country, because nothing says 'Texas charm' like a sea of dealerships.

Oh, joy. Another sprawling temple to the almighty automobile is coming to the Hill Country, because what this stretch of I-35 really needed was one more place to sell overpriced SUVs to suburbanites who think “off-roading” means parking on their neighbor’s lawn. Group 1 Automotive—because nothing says “local charm” like a faceless international corporation—just snatched up 15 acres of perfectly good land in Buda, presumably to build yet another steel-and-glass shrine to vehicular excess.

Details? Nah, they’re keeping those under wraps. Maybe it’ll be a dealership. Maybe it’ll be a parking lot for unsold trucks. Maybe it’ll be a monument to the eternal traffic jam that is I-35. Who knows? All we do know is that this is their second big move in the area this year, because apparently, the Hill Country’s transformation into a strip mall for gas guzzlers wasn’t happening fast enough.

And let’s not forget the real victims here: the trees, the dirt, and anyone who still remembers what this stretch of Texas looked like before it became a neon graveyard of financing offers and “SALE TODAY” banners. But hey, at least we’ll all have somewhere to test-drive a car we can’t afford while waiting for the next soul-crushing red light. Progress, baby. Progress.
