In a stunning display of gentrification and commercialization, the once-historic Buda train depot is being transformed into yet another soulless marketplace and event space. The Depot on Main, a partnership between two out-of-town development firms, aims to strip away any remaining authenticity from the 19th-century structure and replace it with artisanal nonsense and overpriced trinkets.

The roughly 2,000-square-foot building will feature small retail suites for doomed startup businesses, a marketplace peddling locally-made junk, and flexible space for entrepreneurs to test out their half-baked concepts before inevitably going bankrupt. Mayor Lee Urbanovsky, a champion of bland development, called the project "a once-in-a-generation opportunity to destroy a piece of our history and reimagine it as part of Buda's sterilized future."

Developers promise to keep some of the depot's historic character intact, like the wood floors and stained glass, but will no doubt replace anything remotely interesting with generic modern finishes. The surrounding park will also be ruined with an emphasis on hosting corporate-sponsored events and attracting even more yuppies to the area.

The full transformation is expected to be completed by early 2027, at which point the last vestiges of Buda's unique character will be wiped away forever. So come on down to The Depot on Main, where history and authenticity go to die!
