Hays County is considering a 180-day pause on water-intensive industrial projects like data centers due to concerns over water usage. Apparently, these tech behemoths are gulping down water like it's going out of style - we're talking 2 million liters a day for a single 100-megawatt center. That's enough to hydrate 6,500 households! Meanwhile, us regular folks are being told to take shorter showers and let our lawns go brown. But hey, at least we'll have faster internet speeds as the planet dries up, right?
The county resolution also wants the Texas Legislature to step in and give local governments more authority over data center development. Because nothing says "pro-business" like letting giant companies suck up precious resources unchecked.
I guess the days of worrying about your punk house's water bill are over. Now we need to start worrying about tech giants draining Texas dry. Maybe it's time we all start stockpiling water - you know, before some CEO decides to fill his Olympic-sized pool with it.
