Students Set Up 'Free Palestine' Encampment at University of Texas

Austin, Texas — Students at the University of Texas erected a surprise "Free Palestine" encampment on campus Monday, chanting "Whose lawn? Our lawn!" This follows recent pro-Palestinian rallies where 57 students were arrested, although charges were later dropped due to "deficiencies" in the probable cause arrest affidavits.

While protests are protected by the First Amendment, Gov. Greg Abbott has threatened arrest to discourage encampments, stating "no encampments will be allowed." Encampment protests, a form of political resistance, are occurring across at least 20 colleges in the US, including Harvard, Brown, and MIT. [^1]
