R.I.P. Bailey: NBA's First Emotional Support Animal for Dallas Mavericks Dies

The Dallas Mavericks have lost a beloved member of their team, Bailey, the NBA's first emotional support animal. Bailey, a 2-year-old, 24-pound mini Bernedoodle, passed away on Saturday, as confirmed by her caretaker, Heather Mau, the team's assistant athletic trainer.

'When are we getting a dog? When are we getting a dog? Did we get a yes?' - Mavericks players to Mau.

Bailey was brought into the Mavericks organization by the wellness department to help reduce stress among players and staff. She quickly became a favorite among the players, including Dwight Powell, Josh Green, Timothy Hardaway, and Maxi Kleber.

"I think it lightens the mood in a way that's not taking away the seriousness of what we do." - Powell

Head coach Jason Kidd also attested to Bailey's impact:

"That's what Bailey brings, something different but also happiness."

Mavericks' social media manager, Becca Genecov, shared heartfelt condolences on social media:

"Rest in peace, sweet Bailey girl. We will miss being your social media managers every single day. The cuddles, kisses, and support made every day so special."

Bailey's caretakers, Mau and Genecov, shared countless heartwarming moments of Bailey's life with the team on social media. Bailey had her own Instagram account, where she posted regularly about her experiences as an ESA for the Mavericks.

The cause of Bailey's death has not been confirmed.
