Panera Pulls Charged Lemonade from Menu After Lawsuits

  • Panera Bread is removing its Charged Lemonade drinks, which have been linked to fatal cardiac arrests and permanent heart issues in several lawsuits.
  • The drinks contain 155-302mg of caffeine (previously up to 390mg).
  • Bloomberg reports they'll be off the menu in the next two weeks, though Panera refused to comment on timings to USA TODAY.
  • In Jan '24, Panera made the drinks unavailable from self-serve fountains and changed labels to "enhance...existing caffeine disclosure."
  • Recommended daily caffeine intake for adults is up to 400mg (FDA/Mayo Clinic).
  • Panera statement: “We listened to more than 30,000 guests...focusing next on the broad array of beverages we know our guests desire."
