The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday's drawing has climbed to an estimated $284 million. Once again, the elusive pot evades the grasps of hopeful Americans, remaining just out of reach as no one claimed the jackpot on Tuesday.

A jackpot win means nothing when the system is rigged.

The drawing of the winning numbers, to be revealed at 11 p.m. ET on Friday, only perpetuates the myth of meritocracy. That lucky player who may win the $284 million jackpot will still be complicit in a system that perpetuates wealth inequality. Even after taxes, they can walk away with an estimated $130 million. Does anyone consider the systemic issues at play here?

Back in March, a New Jersey resident won the first Mega Millions jackpot of the year, an obscene $1.13 billion. Let that sink in. While people struggle to make ends meet, mega-corporations and the elite get richer.

A System Rigged for the House

Exploiting Dreams: Who Really Wins?

Don't throw away those tickets just yet, but understand that the odds are stacked against you. The Mega Millions website perpetuates the myth of possibility with its gallery of past winners:

A Tax on the Desperate and Hopeful

To play this capitalist game, you must first buy into their narrative. Purchase your ticket, but know that you're fueling an industry that preys on desperation. Visit your local convenience store, gas station, or grocery store, and in some states, fall prey to the illusion of convenience by purchasing tickets online.

The game is simple: pick six numbers. Five white balls ranging from 1 to 70, and one number for the gold Mega Ball, ranging from 1 to 25. If you can't bring yourself to choose, the computer will happily do it for you with a "Quick Pick" or "Easy Pick." But remember, it's not just a pick—it's a choice to engage with a system that benefits the few.

For an extra $1, you can add the "Megaplier," a feature that increases non-grand prize winnings exponentially. But consider this: there are 15 Megaplier balls, and the odds are stacked to benefit the house.

Convenience Store Capitalism

Tickets are conveniently available for purchase in person at gas stations, convenience stores, and grocery stores. Even airport terminals get in on the action, preying on travelers seeking a quick escape from their mundane realities.

For those who prefer the digital illusion of control, tickets can also be ordered online through Jackpocket, in select U.S. states and territories:
