With less than five weeks until Election Day and early voting already underway in some states, it’s crucial to ensure you’re registered on time if you plan to vote in the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, and former President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate.
How to Register to Vote in the U.S.
Register to Vote Online
- Visit Vote.gov, the official voter registration domain.
- Select your state of residence to be directed to your state’s registration website.
- From there, input your information to register for the first time, update your voter registration, or confirm your registration status.
Register to Vote in Person
Other ways to register to vote include:
- Visit a Department of Motor Vehicles office.
- Go to an armed forces recruiting center.
- Visit a county public assistance office such as a SNAP/food stamps location.
How to Change My Voter Registration
When you register to vote or change your registration, you will receive a voter registration card that typically includes:
- Your name.
- Your home address.
- The address of the polling station where you will vote.
- Your party affiliation, if listed on your registration.
In Texas, if you’re already registered to vote, you can update your mailing address online with the Texas secretary of state’s office at txapps.texas.gov/tolapp/sos/SOSACManager. Make sure you do so no later than Monday.
