Two Dead, Including High School Senior, in South Austin Crash

AUSTIN, TX — A mother and her teenage daughter were killed in a crash in South Austin last Saturday, according to the Austin Police Department.

"It is with a heavy heart that we share this devastating news: we lost one of our Mighty Maroon seniors, Miraj Parson, and her mother Cynthia Boone... Miraj will be deeply missed, and our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to her family and loved ones."

— Melvin Bedford, Austin High School Principal

At approximately 9:15 p.m., a car collided with a tractor-trailer on East Oltorf Street, resulting in the deaths of Cynthia Boone (41) and her daughter Miraj Parson (18), a graduating senior at Austin High School.

Two other passengers in the car were hospitalized with serious injuries, while the tractor-trailer driver was unharmed and is cooperating with investigations.

The high school community is mourning the loss of Parson, who was described as a "beacon of joy" and an active member of the Classical Academy and Black Student Alliance.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses and other costs, with a funeral service scheduled for June 8.
