WARNING: The following article contains a description of graphic violence

Body-worn camera footage released Monday shows two Austin officers forcing their way into an apartment, resulting in one officer shooting and killing a man who was stabbing a woman.

At approx. 1:30 a.m on May 27, police received multiple 911 calls reporting domestic violence, including a woman screaming for help and a man yelling.

Upon arrival, Officers Cody Schulz and Alexis Cruz knocked and identified themselves in English and Spanish, with no response. The officers then took turns kicking the door to force their way in.

The caller reported hearing arguing, glass shattering, and things being thrown for about 10 minutes.

Inside, the officers saw 48-year-old Ensel Maclare-Urgelles "actively stabbing" an unidentified woman. Schulz fired his weapon, hitting Maclare-Urgelles, who later died in hospital.

Both victims were treated for life-threatening injuries; the woman has since been released from the hospital.

Schulz is on administrative leave pending two investigations into the shooting: a criminal inquiry and an examination of police conduct.
