Amarillo Says No to 'Sanctuary City for the Unborn' Ordinance

The Amarillo City Council voted 4-1 to reject the "Sanctuary City for the Unborn" ordinance, following Clarendon's lead.

"Texas has already implemented near-total bans on abortion..."

Activist Mark Lee Dickson is campaigning for Texas cities to adopt this ordinance, which bans abortion and restricts specific medical drugs within city limits. It also allows citizens to sue abortion providers.

Amarillo's councilmembers expressed concerns about its potential negative impact on local businesses and economic development.

Texas has already significantly tightened abortion laws, including the 2021 Human Life Protection Act, which criminalizes elective abortions and imposes penalties on medical practitioners.

There are currently 69 US cities, 52 in Texas, that have adopted this ordinance, with populations mostly under 25,000.
