Deadly Shock in Mexico

A shocking incident in Mexico has resulted in the death of an El Paso, Texas man, and critical injury to a woman.

On Tuesday, in Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, a man and woman were electrocuted by a current in a private jacuzzi. The man, 43-year-old Jorge N., sadly died, and Lizeth N. was rushed to a U.S. hospital in critical condition. Their full names have not been released, following Mexican regulations.

"The Sonora State Attorney General's Office is investigating the incident."

Puerto Peñasco is a popular beach resort town on the Gulf of California, attracting many US tourists annually.

While the exact cause of this tragic accident is under investigation, electrocutions in hot tubs are considered rare. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, between 2002 and 2018, there were 33 injuries and an equal number of fatalities in the US due to pool and hot tub electrocutions.

These incidents can be caused by "faulty wiring, improper installation, or the presence of electrical devices near the water."

It is important to follow safety guidelines to minimize risk, including proper installation and maintenance, and being vigilant about electrical appliances near water.
