McCombs apologizes for seeking deposits from non-admitted applicants.

The University of Texas' McCombs School of Business made a huge mistake.

Accidental Email, Major Confusion

Graduate applicants who were rejected received an email requesting an enrollment deposit due to "human error."

Statement from McCombs

In a [statement], McCombs admitted:

"We understand the confusion and concern...We apologize for any inconvenience. Applicants can check their status via the portal."

Caused by "human error" and a "system configuration change," per [Caitlin Mullaney], the mistake affected a "significant portion" of applicants. Mullaney said:

"Our focus is on refunding any payments made...We're still assessing the full scope."

McCombs boasts top-ranked graduate programs, but this error has caused embarrassment and frustration. Applicants are advised to check their [portal]. Mullaney:

"We deeply value the interest...We're committed to a transparent application process."
