Iowa Woman Dies While Hiking at Colorado National Monument

An Iowa woman, Marsha Cook, 54, of Cedar Rapids, collapsed and died while hiking at Colorado National Monument, according to the National Park Service.

"The Colorado National Monument staff became aware of her condition around 2:27 p.m. on Monday. National Park Service rangers and emergency responders provided care, including CPR, but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful."

"The Colorado National Monument staff extends their condolences to Cook's family and friends," said the NPS.

The NPS recommends hiking in early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat, as temperatures in the area have exceeded 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office is investigating the cause of death.
