National Hurricane Center Eyes Two Potential Storms

  • Invest 90L: Located off the southeastern coast, currently has a 20% chance of formation in 48 hours and 7 days.
  • Gulf of Mexico disturbance: An area of low pressure with a 40% chance of becoming a tropical depression. Chance of formation: 0% in 48 hours, 50% in 7 days.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Weighs In

"[The] ingredients are in place for tropical development across the southern Gulf of Mexico. These ingredients include light winds and very warm water." — Adam Douty, AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist.

However, Douty notes that the system's proximity to land may hinder its development.

Tropical Waves and Weather Updates

  • The National Hurricane Center tracks two tropical waves moving west at 11-17 mph, one in the central Atlantic and another in the Caribbean.
  • Weather watches and warnings issued in Texas.
  • No hurricanes have hit the U.S. this season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.
