Texas Man Receives Life Sentence for Murdering Estranged Wife

A Texas man, Ricardo Quinones, 39, has pleaded guilty to the murder of his estranged wife, Lindsey Whitman, and will serve a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years. On Thursday, the Williamson County DA's office released a statement confirming the plea deal, which averted a capital murder trial set to begin this month. If convicted of capital murder, Quinones would have faced life without parole.

"We are pleased that Mr. Quinones has been brought to justice. This guilty plea ensures he will be held accountable for his horrific actions and can no longer threaten the safety of our community...Our deepest condolences go out to Ms. Whitman’s loved ones," said District Attorney Shawn Dick.

The crime occurred on December 27, 2022, just two weeks after Whitman, 31, filed for divorce. Quinones, wearing a disguise, broke into Whitman's Georgetown home, armed with a gun and handcuffs. Their young daughter called 911 and escaped through a window. Despite negotiations, Quinones shot Whitman twice in the head through a pillow and escaped. Georgetown police forced entry after hearing gunshots and found Whitman's body. A task force arrested Quinones in Columbus, Texas, hours later.
