As a wise woman once said, “The booty don’t lie,” and Megan Thee Stallion’s twerking troupe proved it during her scorching Hot Girl Summer tour stop at Austin's Moody Center Thursday night.
Here are five ways Megan and her Hotties slayed:
1. She rose from the ashes
Megan emerged through the floor in a curve-hugging, serpentine bodysuit, with the stage engulfed in red lights and flames. It was an apt metaphor, given her recent trials and triumphs. From the 2020 shooting incident and its aftermath to her court battles with 1501 Certified Entertainment, she's come out on top, and her performance exuded jubilation and victory.
2. Rhyme slinger
While the evening showcased astonishing gluteal gymnastics, don't forget that Megan is a wordsmith extraordinaire. She's hilarious and hard, skillfully depicting stories and skewering haters on tracks like "Megan's Piano," "What's New," and "NDA." She paused to raise a fist and shout, "my body my choice," during "Gift and a Curse," a powerful moment.
3. Texas homecoming
Shouting out her OG Hotties, Megan welcomed H-Town rap legend Paul Wall to the stage. The 43-year-old veteran spit Dirty South classics "Still Tippin'" and "Grillz," sending the crowd into a frenzy.
4. Sexy and proud
Like Lil' Kim before her, Megan embraces her sexuality unapologetically. From "WAP" to "Plan B," she raps about graphic, obscene sex, and celebrates female pleasure and agency. Rocking a Josephine Baker-inspired beaded fringe with butterfly wings, she owned her sexy, and the crowd loved it.
5. Love and camaraderie
Megan is clearly having a blast on tour, showcasing her bond with her dance team on tracks like "Girls in the Hood" and "Don't Stop." She also loves her Hotties, signing autographs, spotlighting impressive twerkers, and bringing fans onstage. She's created a space where women and gay men can safely celebrate their sexuality, and the love in the room was palpable.
As one fan's T-shirt summed up perfectly: "I support women's rights AND women's wrongs."
