Unidentified Amarillo Object: 2 Years On, Mystery Remains

On May 21, 2022, a security camera captured a mysterious figure outside Amarillo Zoo, sparking a wave of intrigue. The story, soon dubbed the "Unidentified Amarillo Object", hit the national headlines in early June when the city released a playful statement:

"For now, the strange visitor is a UAO – Unidentified Amarillo Object...In the spirit of fun if not curiosity, the City of Amarillo is letting the public offer ideas on the identity of the UAO." (https://www.amarillo.gov/Home/Components/News/News/2273/16)

The public obliged, with tens of thousands of comments flooding social media. Theories included a person with a strange hat, a large coyote, the mythical chupacabra, and even an alien.

Adding to the intrigue, Wyze, a smart home company, offered to donate 80 wireless cameras to the zoo.

“Was it an alien? An animal? A human in a costume? The world is curious," said Dave Crosby, co-founder of Wyze.

Two years on, the mystery endures. The zoo has not commented on whether they accepted the camera offer, and the city remains tight-lipped. Did something otherworldly visit Amarillo that night? We may never know.
