Small Plane Crashes Near Albany International Airport

Local and federal officials are investigating a plane crash that occurred near Albany International Airport in New York on Monday morning.

A spokesperson from the Colonie Police Department confirmed that officers, along with additional emergency services, responded to the scene in Latham, New York.

Per the Federal Aviation Administration, a twin-engine Piper PA-31 crashed near the end of the runway at approximately 8:15 a.m. local time.

The plane was privately owned, and only the pilot was on board, according to airport officials, who posted updates on Facebook.

"Please note that the airport continues to operate and there has been no impact to commercial air service. All flights are arriving and departing on time. We’re working with partners to learn more and will provide an update when able."

While the investigation is ongoing, the airport remains open and functional. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are involved in probing the crash.
